WESTELL-A90-312552-DS1 Network Interface Unit Simple Type: Network Interface Unit (NIU)
The Westell 3125-52 DS1 Network Interface Unit (NIU) serves as the network interface between a T1 metallic span (or other DS1 facility) and the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). The primary purpose of the NIU is to provide a maintenance loopback for T1 facilities. The 3125-52 can be optioned to either regenerate or pass the T1 bit stream in the transmit and/or receive paths. The NIU monitors the incoming T1 bit stream for control codes from the network and takes the appropriate action, such as loopback, upon detecting these codes. These codes can be either inband patterns or bit-oriented messages in the ESF Facility Data Link.
